Full-back transfer dominoes! Liverpool to lose out, Man United & Southampton to secure new signings

Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne is a top summer target for Manchester United, but the Saints will only allow the defender to leave if they secure a worthy replacement – and they are eyeing Manchester City loanee Micah Richards, according to the Express.

Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is eager to strengthen his defensive options by pouncing for England international Clyne, whose current contract at St Mary’s Stadium expires in June 2016.

Meanwhile, high-flying Southampton consider Richards an excellent successor at full-back, but will have to fend off interest from Liverpool, who, with Glen Johnson likely to leave in the summer, could be open to a move for the Fiorentina loan star.

What remains an almost certainty is that the 26-year-old is unlikely to return to the Etihad Stadium after his Serie A loan-spell ends.

A move to Southampton seems more likely for Richards, as he may not fancy competing with Javi Manquillo and Jon Flanagan at Anfield.
