The three Old Trafford stars have been in fine form of late and all have little over a year to run on their contracts, so timing may be of the essence.
Louis van Gaal will be all to aware that when players move towards the final 12 months of their contracts they can become vulnerable to approaches from prospective suitors, whilst simultaneously their market value will decrease dramatically.
Of the three it’s Young who must have impressed van Gaal the most.
The former Aston Villa man’s Man United career has been stuttering prior to the Dutch manager’s arrival and a move to use the wide-man in a wing-back role has certainly paid off.
Both Jones and Smalling were guilty of silly errors early on in the campaign but have recently formed a solid central defensive partnership.
