What’s not clear is just why the player attacked the match official, did he think his side deserved a penalty for the challenge just before he confronted the ref?
Either way, it’s clearly a serious offence but what’s perhaps most laughable is the player trying to protest his innocence in the aftermath.
In the end, perhaps in an instant moment of karma, Jacuipense lost 3-1, and Maciel will likely be banned for a year along and hit with a heavy fine.
