The 34-year-old – who has been at club since 1995 – says that he was willing to do the somewhat unpleasant jobs for the likes of Dennis Wise and Jody Morris, presumably because he idolised them.

“I’d do anything for them — make their tea and coffees,” he explained.

“Even silly things like sit on the toilet to make the seat warm for them in the cold winter days at the training ground,” the former England skipper said.

Terry admits that the job may sound odd, but suggests that it was just one of the things that had to be done.

“It’s bizarre when you think about it but that was part of growing up.”
