Chelsea are preparing to make a shock summer swoop on Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur for out-of-favour striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who could replace long-serving centre forward Didier Drogba at Stamford Bridge.

Reports in the Daily Express suggest that Drogba will leave Jose Mourinho’s side at the end of the season, and the Portuguese wants another Premier League veteran to provide back-up for first-choice duo Diego Costa and Loic Remy.

Mourinho knows the 31-year-old well from their time together at Real Madrid. Back in 2011, he signed the Togo international on loan from Manchester City and was rewarded with eight goals from the player in 22 games.

Mauricio Pochettino looks eager to be rid of a player that has managed just two goals in ten appearances since his appointment as manager last summer, despite chairman Daniel Levy blocking a move to West Ham United during the January transfer window.

The Blues could sign two strikers next summer, with Mourinho eager to bring in another big-name to ease the pressure on Costa. Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi is tipped by the Express as the favourite, while Palermo’s Paulo Dybala and Douglas Costa of Shakhtar Donetsk are also potential candidates.
