The 24-year-old was replaced with just under a quarter of the game to go at Wembley and limped straight down the tunnel and it has now been confirmed he will miss the game in Italy as he looks to recover in time for Arsenal’s huge game against Liverpool next weekend.

Welbeck was named man-of-the-match following the 4-0 win against Lithuania on Friday after assisting Wayne Rooney for the first goal then doubling the lead on the stroke of half-time.

One player that may benefit from the former Manchester United forward’s injury is Harry Kane.

The Tottenham striker needed just 78 seconds to score on his Three Lions debut and could be handed a starting role in Turin, with Raheem Sterling also unavailable for the fixture as he has already returned to Liverpool for treatment on a toe problem according to the Daily Mail.
