The 21-year-old midfielder only has two goals and two assists for the Toffees this season, though he remains one of the most highly regarded young talents in the country after breaking onto the scene in some style last year.

Barkley’s potential has seen him become a regular for England at senior international level already, while top clubs like Chelsea and City are mentioned by the Star as his main suitors in the transfer market.

Still, with City supposedly hoping to land him for closer to £30m, it looks like they could fail with a bid if they do not meet Everton’s extraordinarily high valuation of the youngster.

Everton, meanwhile, are also mentioned as looking at Manchester United starlet Adnan Januzaj as one of their main targets for the next transfer window.
