Not only did Les Gones cede their place at the top of the Ligue 1 table, dropping one point behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain, they also suffered several potentially damaging injuries.

The influential Maxime Gonalons has suffered a torn hamstring, and it remains to be seen how long he will be absent.

Gourcuff made his comeback from injury during the match, but his return didn’t last long and he departed on 48 minutes.

Surprisingly, the playmaker wasn’t taken off by his manager, but decided to substitute himself on 48 minutes.

It’s tight at the top, and while Lyon’s main focus will be on overhauling PSG ahead of them, Olympique de Marseille and even AS Monaco are drawing worryingly close to Lyon in third and fourth respectively.

It’s not unthinkable that Les Gones may end the season outside of the Champions League places.

“Of course we hope that [Gourcuff] returns before the end of the season,” Fournier began, speaking to Lyon’s official website, “unfortunately, seeing as it’s a relapse, it might be that his absence is a little longer.

“We will follow his injury with vigilance.”
