The Dutchman, 31, has not been at his best this season and is currently out injured after generally failing to live up to his superb performances in his first season with the club back in 2012/13.

Van Persie’s goals played a huge part in United’s title win that season, but the player now looks somewhat past the best after a long career in the Premier League, also proving a key player during his time at former emoloyers Arsenal.

Fenerbahce now look set to offer the struggling forward an escape route from Old Trafford, with some speculation that new strikers could be on their way in to the club this summer.

The Daily Mail has today mentioned United as admirers of Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane, who would no doubt make a fine replacement for van Persie upfront.
