The Mirror report that the Magpies will appoint Derby County boss Steve McClaren as their new boss in the summer, and are also planning a huge squad revamp to freshen up the team ahead of the next campaign.

The club’s new manager will be handed a £60m transfer kitty, and to keep finances in check, Toon owner Mike Ashley is prepared to be ruthless, and will listen to offers for some of the Geordies’ biggest names: midfielder Tiote, captain Coloccini, and goalkeeper Krul.

As a result of the £5.14bn TV rights deal with Sky Sports and BT Sport, Ashley reckons the value of players will rocket, particularly overseas, and wants to move early in the market this summer to avoid any transfer drama once the money begins to enter the pockets of Premier League clubs.

Tiote has been linked with a big move to Arsenal in recent seasons, but at present West Ham United and Southampton reportedly remain the most interested in his signature.
