After a promising start to life as part of the Louis van Gaal revolution, the 27-year-old has struggled to adapt to the English game. The winger has just four goals to his name – with one coming in the unconvincing FA Cup victory over Yeovil in January.

And despite getting an excellent assist for Juan Mata’s superb winner over Liverpool last time out, the latter half of his season has been overshadowed by a red card during their FA Cup exit to Arsenal earlier in the month, with the Argentine’s second yellow for grabbing the referee was particularly criticised.

The Mirror report that his manager has revealed that he will not stand in his way, should Di Maria want to leave. A major stumbling block to any potential departure however, appeared to be the club wanting recuperate most – if not all – of the £59.7m they initially spent. However, it now seems that the Ligue 1 side are willing to bail both Manchester United, and Di Maria out of a marriage that has never quite worked out.
