Roy Hodgson confirms Harry Kane England start v Italy

Roy Hodgson has announced that Harry Kane will make his first start for England in the international friendly against Italy at Juventus Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Tottenham Hotspur forward is the joint leading goalscorer in the Premier League, alongside Chelsea’s Diego Costa, and gained a first cap from the bench on Friday against Lithuania, part of England’s qualification campaign for UEFA Euro 2016.

Kane scored his first goal for his country within 80 seconds of coming on as a substitute, heading in Raheem Sterling’s cross to the back post, and his confidence in front of goal has earned him his full debut in a non-competitive game.

The Spurs star will be joined by Wayne Rooney up front, but Hodgson refused to reveal the rest of his XI in his press conference, 24 hours ahead of the match – despite Italy counterpart Antonio Conte naming his entire team.
