OL have looked terrific for much of the season, despite struggling with several injuries to key players, but have stuttered in recent weeks.

They were fortunate to have escaped with a 0-0 draw from their trip to the Stade Velodrome, and were beaten 2-1 by OGC Nice at home last weekend.

Yoann Gourcuff’s decision to substitute himself against Les Aiglons hasn’t helped matters and has only appeared to increase the tension around the Stade de Gerland.

The coach held a press conference on Friday in order to counter certain rumours that had been surrounding the club and to deny rumours that he was unhappy with his contract situation.

“What’s been said has irritated me,” said Fournier, as reported by L’Equipe.

“I have no unhappiness with my contract, the staff, or my relationship with my owners,” the coach continued.

“We are second in the championship, I can understand why people want to destabilise the club, it’s all part of the unpleasantness you have to go through when you make others envious.”

Lyon return to league action with a visit to En Avant de Guingamp on Saturday, before welcoming SC Bastia to the Stade de Gerland in the middle of April.
