Chelsea have been given the go ahead to sign Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi in the summer, after the striker himself declared he is ready to pack his bags if the club tell him he can leave.

Icardi has been a bright spark in a faltering Inter team, scoring 17 times so far this season, and at 22-years-old his performances have not gone unnoticed by top European clubs – including Premier League title-leaders Chelsea.

Icardi confirmed that his representatives are in talks over a new contract with Internazionale, but no agreement has been reached, opening the door for the Blues to make a move.

The Argentine told CNN, “If Inter decide to sell me, I’ll pack up and go away”, and he also admitted that his current salary is not great: “Regarding my pay, my salary, that I don’t ‘earn a lot,’ these are things that are a result of two years ago when I came to Inter.”

With the Serie A giants languishing mid-table, and in need of a squad overhaul in the summer, Roberto Mancini is, according to the Metro, open to selling the club’s top-scorer to add to the transfer kitty.

The lure of Champions League football at Stamford Bridge could be more than enough for Jose Mourinho to prize the promising young striker away from the San Siro stadium.
