The former Tottenham star took to Twitter during the leader’s debate on Thursday night, and although he insisted he didn’t like getting involved in politics, he couldn’t help giving his opinion on Farage.

Lineker hit out at Farage again later on that evening, after joking that the debate should be decided by a penalty shootout. When asked who he would back, Lineker mused that Farage would blame the foreign goalkeeper for missing after he blazed it over the bar.

The UKIP representative comes in for a huge amount of criticism for his controversial views, and was a target for a huge number of people – celebrities and the public alike – on social media this past Thursday night.

A few of the other party leaders involved in the debate didn’t fare too well either however, with former Arsenal captain Sol Campbell laying into Labour leader Ed Miliband and questioning his leadership credentials.
