The Mexican forward is currently on loan at Real Madrid, but is unlikely to secure a permanent move come the end of the season. United have struggled in the forward department this campaign, but Hernandez is still likely to prove surplus to requirements.

The Manchester based club have had serious issues in defence since van Gaal took over, and the Dutchman has allegedly identified Clyne as the player to sure things up.

Goal claim he is determined to bring the newly capped England international to Old Trafford, and will offer the Saints a deal worth a total of £25.7m.

Hernandez is valued at around £10m, and van Gaal is willing to offer a further £15m on top.

Rafael and Antonio Valencia have both struggled at right-back this season, and Clyne would no doubt prove to be a significant upgrade on both. He would also be reunited with ex-teammate Luke Shaw, who was bought for a record fee during the summer transfer window.
