His name is Aidy Ward and he is the agent of the Liverpool wonderkid and according to the Liverpool Echo. He is the reason behind the contract stalemate between the two parties.

The Reds believe Ward is he focal point behind Sterling’s interview with the BBC earlier in the week – which was done without the permission of manager Brendan Rodgers nor the club- in which he explained his reasons behind rejecting Liverpool’s offer of a new £100k-a-week contract, as reported in the Telegraph.

This is not the first time one of Ward’s clients has spoken about his future without a club’s permission as West Brom striker Saido Berahino gave an interview to Sky Sports in February suggesting that he was ready to depart the Hawthorns in the summer.

The report goes on to confirm that Rodgers had a conversation with Ward about keeping Sterling’s feet on the ground at a time when he had just broken into the Liverpool first team and been handed his England debut:

“I want to manage the expectations of the kid. The last thing we need is Sky Sports coming up with a yellow bar saying he has signed a five-year contract after playing two games.” he said in 2012 (via the Liverpool Echo)
