Arsene Wenger sets Arsenal challenge as Gunners prepare Premier League title push

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has set his team the target of maintaining a 100% record from now until the end of the season as the Gunners look to catch league leaders Chelsea, via the club’s official website.

After sending out a massive statement of intent with their 4-1 win against Liverpool on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal moved into second place and with Chelsea still to visit, Wenger can’t help but glance up the table.

Strikes from Hector Bellerin, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud handed the Gunners an emphatic win and a trip to Burnley awaits before another appearance at Wembley in an FA Cup semi-final.

“For the title we need us to be perfect and Chelsea not to be perfect,” Wenger told reporters post-match.

“So let’s focus on what we can master which means our own performance and go with the same intensity in the same game.”

Arsenal can perhaps at least plan for another season in the Champions League with this win taking them nine points clear of fifth placed Liverpool, a significant cushion at this stage of the season.

Should the Gunners end up as runners-up, it will be their highest league finish since 2005 when they finished behind the champions – Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.
