One such player they are expecting to struggle to keep hold of is Kenyan international, Victor Wanyama. The Metro reported that Arsenal were looking at the 23-year-old, and considering a £20m bid for the tough-tackling midfielder.

Slightly more concerning for the Saints is the Daily Mirror‘s suggestion that Arsene Wenger’s side may not be the only club interested in the former Celtic man.

With that in mind, Southampton have pinpointed Caen’s N’Golo Kante as the man they see capable of stepping into the void left by Wanyama.

The 24-year-old is relatively unknown in the Premier League, but the Mirror report that he could be available for around £5m – less than half the amount they spent on Wanyama in 2013.

Kante has played twenty-nine games in Ligue 1 this season, scoring two goals.
