Chelsea took the lead in their Premier League game against Stoke City from the spot, Eden Hazard making no mistake after Cesc Fabregas was brought down but the best was yet to come, and it was from Stoke City.
Picking up the ball well inside his own half, Charlie Adam unleashed an almighty strike which sailed over Thibaut Courtois from well over 50 years, a picture-book effort.
Many are familiar with Adam’s gifted left foot, but few could comprehend that the former Liverpool man was capable of such a strike and to beat a goalkeeper of Courtois’s quality from that distance, it might well be the goal of the season so far.
Arsenal’s win earlier on in the day closed the gap at the top of the table and Jose Mournho will need to galvanise his side in the second half for another push.
