The Anfield side slumped to a 4-1 defeat at Arsenal on Saturday, a loss that all but ends their hopes of a top four finish, and whilst Rodgers spent much of the game encouraging his charges this source claims he laid into his players on Sunday after a training session at the club’s Melwood complex.

The Daily Mirror claims that a number of senior players didn’t take kindly to the accusation that they hadn’t tried hard enough and as a result Rodgers will have to deal with a hugely problematic situation.

If Rodgers attitude towards his players simmers then it doesn’t bode well for the club’s FA Cup quarter-final replay with Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night, with Liverpool hoping to salvage a trophy from what has proven something of a difficult campaign.

Liverpool will be without suspended trio Martin Skrtel, Steven Gerrard and Emre Can for that fixture.

Rodgers also has to contend with ongoing contractual negotiations with key duo Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling.
