The Portuguese scored five as Los Blancos beat Granada 9-1 on Sunday, and has now notched up 36 goals in La Liga alone with only 28 games gone. His five on the weekend also took him above Barcelona ace Lionel Messi’s total of 32 in the Spanish top flight.

This is even more impressive when you take in to account how the 30-year-old was being criticised for his performances at the beginning of the year. The drop in form coincided with a few bad results for the Galacticos, who have found themselves trailing to their Catalan rivals in the league.

The Granada victory took them to within a point of Barca, briefly, before their El Clasico beat Celta Vigo in the last kick-off.
