Man United target Mats Hummels denies promising Sir Alex Ferguson Old Trafford move

The Germany international, who started his career at Bayern Munich before moving to BVB, is one of Louis van Gaal’s top transfer targets according to the paper as the Dutchman looks to strengthen a faltering Old Trafford defence.

Since making the move to Signal Iduna Park, Hummels has won two Bundesliga titles along with a German cup, though this season has seen an unexpected battle against relegation for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Outspoken World Cup winner, and Bayern Munich legend Beckenbauer, said that the timing could not be better for the defender to move on and try something new.

He said, “At 26, Hummels is at the best age to make the move to England. “I can understand his thinking well.”

His departure would definitely be felt heavily at the German side, though would be the latest in a long line of high profile players to leave the club for pastures new. Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski both recently moved to Bayern Munich and Shinji Kagawa previously made the switch to Manchester United, before returning last summer.
