The Spaniard, who joined the Blues from Barcelona in the 2011/12 season, has been unable to claim a regular first-team place throughout his time in London, spending the last two seasons out on loan.

Romeu is currently with Bundesliga side Stuttgart for the 2014/15 season, and was also loaned out to La Liga giants Valencia last year, but he is now quoted in the Daily Mirror as wanting some more stability in his career.

Still only 23 years old, Romeu has previously been regarded as a promising young talent, and may well go on to achieve great things in the game if he is at a club where he can play regularly.

This looks unlikely at Chelsea, with players like Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas to compete with in midfield.
