Former Liverpool hero wants Anfield return this summer

Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez wants to return to Anfield this summer with his two-year tenure at Serie A side Napoli set to end, according to a report in The Evening Standard.

Benitez was in charge at the Merseyside club for six years, between 2004-2010, delivering two major trophies which included the infamous fifth European Cup on that magical night in Istanbul.

Current manager Brendan Rodgers isn’t under any significant pressure, but failure to deliver a Champions League place following a lavish transfer window last summer might increase the focus on his position.

The FA Cup is Liverpool’s last chance of tangible success and should they fail to get past Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday, then the pressure will surely mount on Rodgers.

According to the report, Benitez is dreaming of a return to Liverpool if the opportunity presents itself having enjoyed relative success during his time in Naples.

The Spaniard will hope to clinch his second Coppa Italia (equivalent to FA Cup) with a semi-final second-leg clash against Lazio pending.
