Liverpool are looking in to signing Sporting Lisbon stopper Rui Patricio to create competition for current number one Simon Mignolet, reports the Daily Mirror.
Current reserve goalie Brad Jones’ contract ends in the summer, and he hasn’t agreed a new deal with the Reds yet.
Also when the Australian has played he hasn’t done well enough to put pressure on Mignolet. The Belgian has been playing between the sticks for most of the season despite periods of poor form.
Brendan Rodgers apparently wants to sign a keeper regardless of whether or not Jones signs a new deal, and Patricio, 27, is one of a list of targets for the position.
He has made 39 appearances for Sporting this season, and has played for the club since 2006. 2007-08 was the first campaign in which he became first choice for the side. The Portuguese is also a regular for his country, having collected 36 caps already.
