During Manchester City’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday night, goalkeeper Joe Hart was beaten by a great free kick from Jason Puncheon for the decisive second goal.

On the Saturday directly before, Liverpool stopper Simon Mignolet had been beaten by a set piece in a similar area taken by Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil. Instead of hitting it over the wall, the World Cup winner had curled it in at the far post, getting past the Belgian who had anticipated it going the other direction.

This would appear to have had an effect on the England number one two days later, who stood closer to the far post as a result.
