On the Saturday directly before, Liverpool stopper Simon Mignolet had been beaten by a set piece in a similar area taken by Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil. Instead of hitting it over the wall, the World Cup winner had curled it in at the far post, getting past the Belgian who had anticipated it going the other direction.
This would appear to have had an effect on the England number one two days later, who stood closer to the far post as a result.
This allowed the Palace man to hit it over the wall accurately without much power, and not have to worry about the 27-year-old getting a hand to it. You can see Hart struggling to even get a finger on it here…
He must have been doing his homework and been worried about this happening again.
