Brendan Rodgers warns Reds to sort out defence or forget about Wembley

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has warned his stars that they can forget about heading to Wembley if they defend anything like the way they did against Arsenal this weekend, according to The Sun.

The Reds travel to Ewood Park on Wednesday night to take on Championship giants Blackburn Rovers in an FA Cup quarter-final replay on the back of a hefty humbling at the hands of Arsenal.

The winner of the tie will take on Aston Villa, who booked their place in the semis last month with a win over neighbours, West Brom.

Liverpool had displayed excellent away form this season, and hadn’t conceded a goal on the road for 596 minuted before their battering at the hands of the Gunners last weekend.

And manager Brendan Rodgers has warned his players to book their ideas up if they want to earn a place at Wembley.

“On Saturday we didn’t defend the ball well enough and we gave it away in poor areas for two goals,” he said.

“Over the last few months we had six clean sheets against good opponents.

“But the minute you come off it against good players, you get punished.”
