Chelsea are planning to enter the race for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and rival Arsenal for the Frenchman’s signature after the Blues sent scouts to watch the Saints take on Everton, The Telegraph reports.
According to the report, Schneiderlin is high on Arsenal’s wish-list and the Gunners are ‘sure’ to make a bid for the defensive midfielder this summer, but Chelsea’s arrival on the case could make matters more interesting.
It looked as though Schneiderlin would join the likes of Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw in departing St Mary’s last summer, but he was convinced to stay at the club and Southampton have enjoyed a good season as a result.
Champions League football is vital for the 25-year-old and he has recently revealed, as The Telegraph suggests, that he would look to leave should Southampton fail to qualify for Europe’s premier club competition, which could soon become a reality.
The south-coast club value their prized asset at around £25m, according to the report, which is a respectable price-tag given Schneiderlin’s majestic performances this season.
