The Red Devils have also sent staff out to watch the forward at games against Sampdoria and Parma as they run the rule over the 22-year-old, who turned down the latest contract offer from the Italian giants.

Discussions with Icardi are reportedly ongoing, though Louis van Gaal may have to act fast as Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal have all also had him watched.

The former Barcelona junior is currently on £11,000 per week, looking for a pay rise of almost 300% up to £43,000 per week.

Last week, the forward did admit he was willing to move this summer and said, “If there are other clubs who want me, they should discuss this with Inter. If Inter decide to sell me, I’ll pack up and go away.

“If they don’t want to, I will stay in Milan where I am really good and I’m happy. My family here feels like home.

“Regarding my pay, my salary, that I don’t “earn a lot”, these are things that are a result of two years ago when I came to Inter.”

Icardi joined Inter from fellow Serie A club Sampdoria in 2013, and is currently third top scorer of the league with 15 goals.
