The Metro reports that the Argentine still has three years left on his current deal at the San Siro but that Inter are desperate to tie him down to a new long-term contract.

It’s claimed that both club and player have been in tough negotiations throughout the season to try and work a new deal but as yet no suitable agreement has been reached.

And this could mean the Premier League duo attempt to work a deal this summer with the Metro commenting that both City and Chelsea have been ‘encouraged’ by the stand-off.

It’s not hard to see just why Inter are trying to tie Icardi down so much with the striker or why the two table-topping Premier League sides are interested, Icardi has managed an impressive 15 goals in 27 appearances despite Inter’s struggle for form for the majority of this season.

The Metro believes Icardi could be the ideal replacement in the Chelsea squad for Didier Drogba whilst Stevan Jovetic’s exit in the summer could provide space in the City lineup for the South American.
