Both sides look short of the quality needed to sustain a real challenge for the title, with the Gunners linked with a number of players in that position after some inconsistent form from Per Mertesacker throughout this season.

Arsene Wenger did move to raid La Liga for the signing of Brazilian centre-back Gabriel in the January transfer window, and he now hopes to bring Moreno to the Emirates Stadium as well, according to the Daily Star.

The Mexican international, who has 58 caps for his country, has impressed since making the move to Spain, and Tottenham will also hope to bring him in as an additional option for their back four.

The 27-year-old has also played in Europe for AZ Alkmaar after starting his career in his native Mexico with UNAM.
