Louis van Gaal’s side are in fine form and are now higher than their rivals in the table, following on from City’s latest slip-up at the hands of Crystal Palace on Monday. United have won their last five games and have an eight point cushion on a Champions League place.

Young, 29, has been one of the stand-out performers in his club’s recent impressive run and is desperate to help his side to victory this weekend.

City’s fourth win in a row over United back in November ensured Manuel Pellegrini’s side are now enjoying their best run of results against their neighbours in 60 years. So despite their recent struggles, Young knows only too well that City have the quality to spring a surprise.

The former England international said of the run of defeats against City: “That’s something you want to put right. It will be another massive game.

“We know it will be tough but as long as we can play the way we have shown, especially in the last few games, and add to that, it’s going to be a great game and hopefully we will get the three points.

“We want to keep the momentum going and the positive play. It would be nice (to finish above City) but we are just taking each game as it comes.

“It is obviously going to be another tough one against City next week but we will prepare as well as we can do as we always do.”
