The 32-year-old, currently playing for Turkish outfit Fenerbahce, still has a year left remaining on his current contract, yet the club are apparently willing to allow the midfielder to leave at the end of the season.

According to reports in Turkey, Everton are tracking Meireles’ situation with Fenerbahce, and are considering tabling a bid at the end of the season for the Portugal international.

The former Anfield star was back in Liverpool only last month for the club’s All-Stars charity game – though he, along with Fenerbahce team-mate, and also former Reds ace, Dirk Kyut were both unable to feature due to injury.

The midfielder only spent one season with Liverpool before being sold to Chelsea in August 2011, but his short stint with the Reds wasn’t without some special moments, as he grabbed his first goal for the club with a stunning strike in the Merseyside derby.
