Tutto Mercato Web reports that Serie A expert Gianluca Di Marzio believes the former Chelsea boss, who famously led the Blues to Champions League glory in 2012, will be at the top of La Viola’s wishlist if current manager Vincenzo Montella leaves this summer.

Montella has two years left on his contract, but is said to have caught the eye of a number of big clubs.

Di Matteo, who ended a two-year exile from football when he replaced Jens Keller in the Schalke hotseat last October, has led his side to fifth place in the Bundesliga, having taken over when they were sat in 11th position.

He also took the Germans to the Champions League Round of 16, where they were eliminated by holders Real Madrid despite earning a memorable 4-3 away victory in the second leg.

The Italian penned a three-year deal upon his appointment, which came 23 months after his dismissal by Chelsea, and he could face a tough choice between staying loyal to the club which showed faith in him last year, or returning to his homeland.

Fiorentina occupy fourth place in the Serie A table, one point ahead of Sampdoria in fifth and two clear of sixth-placed Napoli.
