Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers insists FA Cup was always target following Champions League exit

The Reds conceded three goals in eight first half minutes against the Gunners, as their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League suffered a huge dent. Their Belgian stopper insists work is being done to prevent that from happening again, and claims the same mistakes won’t be made in the future.

“You always look for certain things you can do better and what went wrong. I always speak to the defence and on the way back from Arsenal we talked through a couple of things. You always look for what you can do better when the next game comes around.” he told the official club website.

A trip to Ewood Park on Wednesday night against Championship side Blackburn Rovers gave Mignolet and his teammates a chance to show they have indeed learned from the mistakes made at the Emirates, with a meeting against Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final their reward.

After being dropped in favour of Brad Jones last December, the 27-year-old has been in good form since reclaiming the number one spot. He pulled off a series of high quality saves this past Saturday to ensure his side didn’t concede more than the four that they did.
