The England international has been injured for much of this season, and the Reds have struggled. They are now in sixth place in the Premier League, and seven points off the Champions League qualification places. However, there is still a chance of success in the FA Cup and they face Aston Villa in the semi-finals of the competition later this month.

Despite this Sturridge still believes the Merseyside club can win the title next time round. They came second in the league last season, only narrowly missing out to Manchester City after late defeats to Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

He said: “We have, of course, not played as well as we have done in the last season but things change. Of course we aim to play well until the end of the season and next season we will hopefully be able to win the Premier League, not just get into the top four.

“We just need to start the season better than we did this season. Top four is still feasible. We have seven games left and anything is possible.”

Liverpool next play Newcastle United, and will need to win to have any chance of finishing in the top four.
