The Reds have been having trouble getting Raheem Sterling to sign a new deal, but his 19-year-old teammate seems far more willing to put pen to paper. The contract will be set at a base wage of at least £30,000 a week, with performance related bonuses written into the deal. With Steven Gerrard leaving in the summer and Luis Suarez having left before the start of the current campaign, it is important that the Merseyside club keep hold of their other stars.

However, they may find this more difficult if they do not qualify for next season’s Champions League. Not being in Europe’s premier club competition would be sure to put off some top players. They are currently seven points off fourth placed Manchester City, but could tighten the gap to just four points if they beat Newcastle United on Monday evening.
