Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini takes ‘responsibility’ for Man United defeat

Manuel Pellegrini’s men got the derby off to a perfect start when Sergio Aguero opened the scoring after just eight minutes, but Ashley Young’s leveller just six minutes later saw the floodgates open, with Man United putting another three past a hapless Joe Hart.

Having got off to such a superb start, the Citizens have some serious explaining to do on how they succumbed to such a heavy defeat – but City right-back Zabaleta confesses that he can’t explain the defeat.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Argentine revealed, “It was a disappointing afternoon for us.

“Sometimes it’s hard to understand why we can play really well for 20 minutes and when they equalised we were a different team.

“We didn’t have any reaction and the second half was also really poor,” the 30-year-old added.

“That team can play much better but the reality is we are not playing very well. We’re far from our best.”

Defeat at Old Trafford has all but ended Manchester City’s hopes of retaining the Premier League trophy, as they now sit four points behind Louis van Gaal’s side in fourth-place, while leaders Chelsea boast a 12 point gap and a game in hand.
