Liverpool wonderkid Raheem Sterling has insisted that his side need to forget about their FA Cup semi-final with Aston Villa at Wembley on Sunday and focus on the task at hand by beating Newcastle United on Monday night.

The Reds can close the gap on Manchester City in fourth to just four points as their hopes of qualifying for next season’s champions league has been given a major boost, with City losing their last two games.

After back-to-back defeats against Manchester United and Arsenal, it appeared Liverpool’s chances of playing in Europe’s elite competition next term were slim but a win against the Magpies at Anfield would open the door once again.

A trip to Wembley looms for the Reds, but Sterling has called on his teammates to put the game against Villa to the back of their minds:

“We’ve just got to keep focused and block out the game at Wembley.” the 20-year-old told the club’s official website.

“It’s credit to ourselves for getting there, but now we’ve got to block it, go into the next game against Newcastle and be 100 per cent.” he added.

The Reds have lost only one of their last 10 home league games.
