(Video) Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle: Sterling goal gives Reds perfect start

A corner was partially cleared by the Magpies, but only to Raheem Sterling who was lurking outside the penalty area. He then hooked the ball to defender Emre Can, who likewise sent it back in towards the six-yard box. The mini-cross bounced into centre-back Mike Williamson, who seemed unable to get his feet sorted and let the ball hit off him. But before he could atone for his mistake, Allen was there to rifle a shot home, in the process bagging his second ever Premier League goal for the club, and his first at Anfield.

It sealed a game that should have arguably been done with long before. Raheem Sterling went from the hero of the first-half – after scoring a wonderful opener – to the villain once again after missing a simple chance from a few yards out.

But is this goal the clincher?
