Gonzalo Higuain had a goal disallowed as Napoli beat Fiorentina 3-0 on Sunday, in what was a terrible decision by the linesman and the referee.

Rafa Benitez’s side were already leading 1-0 thanks to Dries Mertens when the former Real Madrid forward crashed a 30-yard effort in to the crossbar. The ball then rebounded and landed over line before bouncing away. However, the officials obviously didn’t see the incident.

Luckily for them it didn’t matter in the end with Marek Hamsik and Jose Callejon later scoring to wrap up the win which took the Italian side to fourth in Serie A.

With refereeing standards seemingly getting worse by the season, surely incidents like this one will make FIFA and UEFA think about bringing in more technology to help the officials?
