The 19-year-old arrived from Southampton for £27 million in the summer say the Star, and has had problems with injuries throughout his debut campaign with the Red Devils. Manager Louis van Gaal even criticised his fitness just weeks after he got there.

As a result the England international has only made 17 appearances for United. He could find it difficult to get in to the side once he returns from his current hamstring injury, with Daley Blind performing well at left-back in his absence.

He said: “It’s been a frustrating one because of the injuries I’ve picked up but I’m loving it! If I was to write a school report on my first season here I’d give myself a C-. You don’t realise just how big Man United is until you’re actually here – it’s frightening! It is the biggest club around.”

Van Gaal has also masterminded a turnaround in fortunes while Shaw has been on the sidelines. Wins against Liverpool and Tottenham have seen the Old Trafford outfit consolidate their place in the Champions League qualification places and even get in to the race to finish second in the Premier League.
