Arsenal in talks to sign Chelsea star Petr Cech as Jose Mourinho prepares to sell keeper

The Blues boss claims that while Cech’s influence on the pitch may have dwindled with the promotion of Belgian starlet Courtois to the first-team, that the veteran stopper has still been crucial in Chelsea’s position at the top of the Premier League, insisting he is a “fantastic” support to his team-mates.

Mourinho, after his side beat Queens Park Rangers 1-0 to reclaim their seven point lead over second placed Arsenal, told reporters, “Cech is absolutely fantastic,” as quoted by the Financial Express.

“His attitude is amazing. Before the game he told the captain (John Terry) to choose a certain end if he won the toss because at 1:30pm it would be better to play in a certain goal because of the sun,” the Portuguese revealed.

“And he was not playing, he was thinking of Courtois. With this attitude Petr deserves everything.”

This season is rumoured to be the Czech Republic international’s final season at Stamford Bridge, with Arsenal, according to the Metro, keen to take advantage of his unsettlement with the title leaders, and have reportedly already opened talks ahead of a summer transfer.

Nonetheless, despite a mooted move to the club’s Premier League rivals, Cech, if he does choose to move on at the end of the season, will no doubt leave with a legendary status firmly intact – even if it is to Arsene Wenger’s side.
