Manchester United defender Luke Shaw clarifies comments regarding not celebrating against Chelsea

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw was forced to clarify comments which appeared in the papers where he hinted that should he score against Chelsea, he wouldn’t know whether to celebrate – something he’s since denied, The Evening Standard reports.

Louis van Gaal’s side take on league leaders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday as they aim to close the gap at the top of the table and Shaw’s involvement in the game is far from certain.

The full-back has been struggling with a hamstring injury and according to PhysioRoom, he’s set to return to full training this weekend. However, with Daley Blind excelling in the left-back slot and his relationship with Ashley Young strengthening every week, Shaw may have to wait for a chance to return to the starting XI.

“I haven’t scored yet so I don’t know. If my first goal was to come against Chelsea I’m not sure what I’d do,” Shaw was previously quoted as saying.

The England international has since reassured fans that his words were taken out of context and that he would, “of course”, celebrate a goal against boyhood club Chelsea.
