Olympique Lyonnais beat SC Bastia 2-0 at the Stade Gerland to move top of the Ligue 1 table.
Goals from Mohamed Yattara and Alexandre Lacazette ensured that Lyon won their second consecutive match in the French top flight and overtook Paris Saint-Germain at the summit of the division.
OL have played a game more than the reigning champions, but sit two points ahead of them, putting the onus back on PSG ahead of the weekend’s games.
Bastia—who switched to a 5-4-1 formation—defended well during the first half, even if Alphonse Areola was called upon to make a few key saves.
However, they tired in the second half, and while they had the chances—one Francois Kamono effort being beaten away by Anthony Lopes—Lyon’s freshness and class eventually told.
Substitute Yattara opened the scoring with 13 minutes to play when the Corsicans failed to clear their lines after a corner and he finished Clement Grenier’s delivery with aplomb.
They doubled their lead eight minutes later.
Bastia pushed forward and were punished for their adventurousness as Lyon broke superbly. Clinton N’Jie’s magnificent dribble set him clear, before Lacazette completed the move with a delightful finish.
Lyon’s delight contrasted with Bastia’s dismay—the Corsicans are only two points clear of the relegation zone with six games to play.
