The forward moved to Ligue 1 at the beginning of the campaign on a season-long loan from Championship side Norwich City.

However, he has largely failed to convince the Stephanois fans and, most importantly, coach Christophe Galtier.

ASSE have the option to buy Van Wolfswinkel permanently for a fee of 6 million Euros, but with the forward only registering five goals in 25 Ligue 1 appearances so far this term, Foot-sur7 believe that the club will not choose to purchase him outright.

However, Van Wolfswinkel may not be resigned to a return to the Canaries, who sit second in the English second tier and aspirations of returning to the Premier League.

Calciomercato [via Foot-sur7] have reported that clubs in Italy have been tracking the forward and are planning to rescue him when his unhappy spell in France comes to an end this summer.
