The 25 year old Loftus Road star has bagged 17 Premier League goals this season, this despite the fact his side have been battling relegation since day one.

Saint boss Ronald Koeman is keen to strengthen his attack having seen top-scorer Graziano Pelle go off the boil in the second half of the current campaign.

Magpies owner Mike Ashley will look to beat the south-coast side to the signing of the QPR striker and will hope such a capture would aid his push to bring in Steve McClaren to take over as the club’s manager this summer.

One imagines Chris Ramsey would struggle to keep hold of Austin if QPR failed to avoid the drop to the Championship and if Southampton had European football to offer then Koeman may well lead the race to sign the former Burnley and Swindon Town man.
