There was a vast contrast in emotions at the Stade de la Moustoir on Saturday evening as strugglers Toulouse condemned their rivals FC Lorient to a 1-0 defeat.
The match was as tight and as cagey as one might imagine, with both sides keen not to take too many risks but demonstrating the defensive frailty that has left both struggling at the wrong end of the table.
Martin Braithwaite scored the only goal of the game—ending an extensive goal drought—to hand Le TFC a valuable three points.
The win pulls Dominique Arribage’s side three points away from the drop zone, while Lorient, who began the day on equal points with their vanquishers, have dropped into the bottom three.
However, it wasn’t a perfect outing for Toulouse, who lost Francois Moubandje four minutes before the end of the match to a straight red card following a vicious two-footed tackle on Jordan Ayew.
