However, it was a disappointing evening for both himself and his team, as the Dutchman failed to get on the scoresheet and a strong United side could only draw with the Foxes.

The away side included first-team players Rafael, Tyler Blackett, Jonny Evans, Adnan Januzaj, and James Wilson alongside van Persie. But, it was Leicester who struck first through Harry Panayiotou. And it wouldn’t be any of the established players who would find the equaliser, but the 19-year-old Sean Goss.

Nevertheless, the extended stint from the former Arsenal man was arguably the important objective from the game.

Despite being included by Louis van Gaal on the substitutes’ bench for the defeat to Chelsea at the weekend, the 31-year-old has not featured in a competitive fixture for the first-team since the loss to Swansea back in February.

Following the poor performance from Radamel Falcao at Stamford Bridge, the 62 minutes under his belt may do enough to prove his fitness to the manager ahead of the club’s next game against Everton on Sunday.
